I just adore this place and have been fortunate to frequent here a few times. Don't be intimidated or put off by the portions. My strategy is to enjoy all the delicious made from scratch sides, then eat what I want of the meat, and take the rest home. The leftover steak makes great french dip sandwiches. Yes, they have big take-home bags. The atmosphere is rustic and comfortable. The service is friendly and ultra efficient. You will be done with your meal within an hour without feeling rushed. They even have lodging available on site. You have to plan ahead to dine here. They book out a few weeks, and you need to order your meat selection when you make your reservations.
A gift shop is on site, and you can also play a game of horse shoes if you have a wait.
Such an Awesome experience! Call ahead for reservations, get on the waiting list! Has taken years to get in, but we finally made a special trip just to get in. Stayed at The Baker Cabins in Silver Lake through VRBO! The cabin was great, relaxing and the host was Awesome! The entire meal was excellent from the bottomless salad, ranchers beans, 26 oz steak, skillet sweet bread, huge baked potato with butter and sour cream to the Fabulous desert of Marion berries and sliced strawberries on a homemade pound cake with sweet cream. Loved the entire experience…they have this down to a science! Even the bags and containers for the beans!! Lots to do around you from Fort Rock, The Crack in the Ground, The Hole in the Ground, and do much more!!! Take a few days to enjoy!!
You go there for the experience. The service was the best. The food was delicious. Reservations are made in advance. You either pick the chicken or the steak. It's a 4 course meal salad,(homemade dressings)cowboy beans, main course, with enough rolls to make a meal, than dessert. Dishes are cleared after each course, and a big mason jar of tea or pink lemonade. Love every bit. The best part is there are leftovers ,

The service and ambiance were nothing short of extraordinary, and the immersive cowboy mess hall added an extra layer of fun to the evening. The four-course meal, featuring a refreshing salad, delectable soup and rolls, a choice of chicken or top sirloin for the main course, and a mouthwatering dessert, was a culinary journey. While the top sirloin I selected didn't quite meet the lofty expectations I had, it's important to note that the entire experience, priced at just $45, was in line with what I anticipated. However, the corn chowder and strawberry shortcake were absolute showstoppers, leaving my taste buds in pure ecstasy. Although the overall dining experience didn't completely knock it out of the ballpark for me, the Cowboy Dinner Tree experience is unquestionably a must-visit if you find yourself near Silver Lake, Oregon.
I'd give them more stars if I could. First time here but definitely won't be the last. You get steak or chicken. Both cooked to perfection. Excellent service. The beans(soup) was deeeelish. It's a bit of a drive but worth it!!!!! Bring your appetite the steak is 26-30oz and the chicken is a whole bird. Oh and baked potato and salad. The setting and atmosphere is rustic old west. Well done CDT well done. Oh one more the fresh baked bread!!!!
I debated heavily on whether or not to leave a review as my biggest fear is this place taking off in a way that would make it more difficult than it already is to get a reservation. However, I would like to commend the staff and ownership for their many years of consistently high quality food and experience.
I've been here a number of times, my goal is to hit my 10th visit by the end of this year. Which, in my case is saying something because their days/hours are quite limited. Don't get me wrong, I hope this never changes as I imagine it's a big part of why their quality and consistency is so on point.
When I want to treat my employees this is where I take them as the experience is unrivaled and impossible to match anywhere else in Oregon.
If it's going to be your first time I highly recommend waiting for a reservation that would allow you to stay in one of their cabins as I find it difficult to leave following the food coma that this will inevitably induce.
Finally, make sure to bring dollar bills and a sharpie. It goes to a good cause :)
Very good food. Must have a reservation and a bit out of the way, but it was well worth the trip. The price wasn't bad for the amount of leftovers you get to take home. Bring a cooler if it's hot out.
Already making reservations for next year. We WANT the full experience next time. We rode our Harley's in and ate dinner. What a great time had by our party of 9. We want to stay in your cabins next time. The staff was ALL TOP NOTCH!!! What an amazing time. The staff ABSOLUTELY ROCKS!!!
